Moya wins 12th straight match in Croatia

UMAG, Croatia, July 24 (UPI) -- Carlos Moya extended his winning streak at the Croatia Open to 12 matches Thursday with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Federico Browne of Argentina.

The top seed, Moya cruised into the quarterfinals as he seeks his third straight and fourth career Croatia Open title. He is 25-5 lifetime in this event with three of his five defeats coming against the eventual champion.

Moya's quarterfinal opponent will be eighth-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer, who outlasted France's Jean-Rene Lisnard, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, in a match that lasted three hours.

Lisnard fought off six match points before Ferrer reached the quarterfinals for just the second time this season. The other came at Auckland in January.

In another match Thursday, second seed Fernando Gonzalez of Chile had a 3-0 lead when Belgian Kristof Vliegen retired due to a right gorin injury.
