Coria reaches quarterfinals

STUTTGART, Germany, July 17 (UPI) -- Guillermo Coria of Argentina routed Spaniard David Ferrer, 6-1, 6-1, Thursday to advance to the round of eight at the Mercedes Cup.

Third-seeded Rainer Schuettler of Germany also moved on, defeating No. 15 seed Alex Corretja of Spain, 6-4, 6-4. Fifth-seeded Jiri Novak of the Czech Republic was not as fortunate, falling to No. 12 Mikhail Youzhny of Russia, 7-6 (7-1), 6-4.

Other seeded players advancing were No. 6 seed Fernando Gonzalez of Chile, who outlasted No. 11 Jarkko Nieminen of Finland, 7-6 (7-2), 6-7 (5-7), 6-3; and ninth-seeded Tommy Robredo of Spain, a 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 winner over Czech qualifier Jiri Vanek.
