Tom Watson shoots 64 in strong wind

DEARBORN, Mich., July 11 (UPI) -- Tom Watson turned in an amazing, 8-under 64 in blustery conditions Friday for a two-stroke lead after two rounds of the Senior Players Championship.

Known as one of the best wind players in the history of the game, Watson had five birdies on the front nine and three on the back at the TPC of Michigan, going from 23rd to first with a 36-hole total of 10-under 134.

Two-time U.S. Open champion Andy North was alone in second at 8-under 136 after shooting a 69. First-round leader Gil Morgan, Mike McCullough, Bob Murphy and Terry Mauney shared third at 137.

Wind gusts approached 30 miles per hour.
