BASTAD, Sweden, July 9 (UPI) -- Nicolas Lapentti moved into his first ATP Tour quarterfinal of the season on Wednesday with a victory over Adrian Voinea in the Swedish Open.
The sixth seed from Ecuador, Lapentti was a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) winner over his Romanian opponent.
Lapentti reached the third round at the Australian Open and at Roland Garros as well as the fourth round at the Tennis Series event in Miami.
The next opponent for Lapentti will be Rafael Nadal, a 17-year-old who defeated fellow Spaniard Albert Portas, 6-0, 6-4.
Fourth seed Mikhail Zouzhny of Russia and fifth seed Mariano Zabaleta of Argentina also won second-round matches on Wednesday and will meet in the quarterfinals.
The 21-year-old Zouzhny, who has a pair of semifinal appearances this season, outlasted Franco Squillari of Argentina, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2.
