ARLINGTON, Texas, June 26 (UPI) -- Eric Chavez highlighted a five-run third inning with a three-run homer Thursday night as Oakland crushed Texas, 13-0.

Tim Hudson scattered three hits in seven innings for the Athletics.

In the third inning, Oakland hit three home runs off Rangers starter Ismael Valdes (6-4). After Scott Hatteberg hit a solo homer, Chavez's 16th homer of the season extended Oakland's lead to 5-0.

Long followed Chavez's blast with his first home run in nearly four weeks and Miguel Tejada added a two-run shot off Valdes in the fourth that pushed the Athletics' advantage to 8-0.

Ramon Hernandez had a three-run shot off Jay Powell in the sixth, giving Oakland five homers in a game for the first time since April 27, 2002.
