NASHVILLE, June 25 (UPI) -- Jeff Fisher, who came under fire for a poor start last season before guiding Tennessee to the AFC championship game, has agreed to a contract extension.
The extension runs through the 2006 season.
Financial terms were not disclosed. ESPN reported that Fisher will remain one of the NFL's highest-paid coaches, and that his base salary for 2003 will be slightly in excess of $3 million.
The three subsequent years reportedly will pay him more than $4 million annually.
The Titans lost four of their first five games last season, prompting team owner Bud Adams to comment that his team had been "outcoached." The Titans bounced back to qualify for the AFC title game for the second time in the last four years, where they lost to Oakland.
Fisher, 45, has been the Titans' coach since taking over for Jack Pardee with six games left in the 1994 season. He has an overall mark of 80-61.
