He signed a one-year contract.

Acevedo, 33, struggled with the Yankees, going 0-3 with six saves and a 7.71 ERA in 25 appearances. He was released on June 11, three days after giving up a three-run homer to Eric Karros in the seventh inning of a 5-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs.

It was the second attempt by Roger Clemens to get his 300th career victory.

Early in the season, Acevedo filled in nicely when closer Mariano Rivera went to the DL. He recorded five saves, but was ineffective after Rivera returned.

Acevedo, who signed a minor league contract with the Yankees in January, also has pitched for Colorado (1995, 2001), the New York Mets (1997), St. Louis (1998-99), Milwaukee (2000), Florida (2001), and Detroit (2002).
