SAN ANTONIO, June 16 (UPI) -- The San Antonio Spurs captured the NBA championship with an 88-77 victory over the New Jersey Nets in game six.
Sunday's win was the second in five years for the Spurs.
Tim Duncan provided one great performance, nearly producing a quadruple-double. In a devastating all-around performance, Duncan produced a triple-double with 21 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists. He also tied a finals record with eight blocks.
"I'm sure that he had absolutely no clue what his stats were," said San Antonio's Gregg Popovich, who became the 12th coach to win two NBA titles.
For the series, Duncan averaged 24.2 points, 17.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists and a record 5.3 blocks en route to winning Most Valuable Player honors in the Finals for the second time.
Duncan also captured the Finals MVP award in 1999, when the Spurs defeated the New York Knicks in five games.
