NHL awards announced

TORONTO, June 13 (UPI) -- Nicklas Lidstrom of Detroit Thursday night won his third straight Norris Trophy.

Lidstrom, 33, became the first defenseman to win three consecutive Norris Trophies since 1979.

Martin Brodeur, who led New Jersey to its third Stanley Cup title in nine years Monday, added his first career Vezina Trophy as the NHL's top goaltender.

He was the first goalie in NHL history to record four 40-win seasons, and led the league with nine shutouts.

Colorado center Peter Forsberg earned the Hart Trophy as the league's MVP, and Markus Naslund of Vancouver received the Pearson Award as the league's outstanding player as voted by the NHL Players Association.

Forsberg, who also accepted the Art Ross Trophy for leading the league in scoring, totaled 29 goals and 77 assists in 75 games.

Jere Lehtinen of Dallas was named top defensive forward for a third time, Barret Jackman of St. Louis was named top rookie, and Minnesota's Jacques Lemaire was named top coach.
