Mets activate Stanton and Bell

NEW YORK, June 6 (UPI) -- The New York Mets made a series of moves Friday, activating lefthander Mike Stanton and infielder Jay Bell from the disabled list.

Stanton had not pitched since May 21 due to a swollen left knee. He is 2-3 with a 5.03 ERA in his first season with New York.

Bell had not played since the same date, battling a strained right groin. The veteran is batting .214 with three RBI in a reserve role.

The Mets optioned pitcher Pat Strange and infielder Marco Scutaro to make room for Stanton and Bell. Strange yielded 11 runs and 13 hits in nine innings over six appearances while Scutaro batted .118 in 10 games.
