San Diego 8; Milwaukee 6

SAN DIEGO, May 29 (UPI) -- Gary Bennett hit a game-winning two-run homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday night to lift San Diego over Milwaukee, 8-6.

San Diego came within one out of winning Tuesday's series opener before Milwaukee rallied for four runs in the ninth. The roles were reversed Wednesday as the Padres overcame an early five-run deficit.

Brian Buchanan matched a career high with four hits and four RBI as San Diego came back to take a 6-5 lead. Milwaukee forged a 6-6 tie on a run-scoring single by Keith Ginter with two outs in the eighth.

Buchanan started the ninth with an infield single and Xavier Nady sacrificed.

Bennett, who had an RBI double in the seventh, drove a 1-1 pitch from Luis Vizcaino (1-3) over the wall in left field to snap San Diego's seven-game losing streak to Milwaukee.

Mike Matthews (2-3), who recorded the loss on Tuesday, notched the victory after pitching a perfect ninth for the Padres.
