NEW YORK, May 22 (UPI) -- Carlos Delgado continued his success against struggling lefthander Andy Pettitte Thursday night by hitting two home runs as the Toronto Blue Jays posted an 8-3 victory over the New York Yankees.

Delgado belted a three-run homer in the top of the first and a two-shot in the third off Pettitte (4-5), who has lost four straight starts for the first time in his career.

The Blue Jays' first baseman has batted .353 with five homers lifetime against Pettitte.

Toronto entered with a league-leading .292 batting average and battered the Yankees' starter for seven runs and nine hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Entering the game with an American League-leading batting average of .292, the Blue Jays battered the Yankees' starter for seven runs and nine hits in just 3 2/3 innings. His ERA climbed from 4.47 to 5.28.

Roy Halladay (5-2) posted his fifth straight victory for the Blue Jays. He was not especially sharp, giving up nine hits in seven innings, but worked out of several jams and allowed just two runs. The righthander struck out five without a walk.

While the Yankees boast the best road record in baseball at 18-7, they have found winning at home difficult. New York has lost four straight and eight of its last nine in the Bronx, falling to just 11-11 at Yankee Stadium.

Before the game, the Yankees placed center fielder Bernie Williams on the 15-day disabled list with a partially torn left meniscus. He is expected to miss four to six weeks if he opts for surgery.
