Arizona 7, NY Mets 3 (2nd Game)

NEW YORK, April 27 (UPI) -- Activated from the disabled list in between games of the doubleheader, Randy Johnson struck out 12 in six innings and Mark Grace homered and drove in four runs Sunday to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 7-3 victory and a sweep of the New York Mets.

New York had won seven of 10 games before Sunday, but reverted to the form that landed them in last place in 2002, committing eight errors and striking out a record 27 times in the doubleheader.

The Diamondbacks swept a doubleaheader from the Mets here last Aug. 3 en route to winning every contest in a four-game series.

This one was much needed for Arizona, which entered Sunday's doubleheader in last place in the NL West with an 8-15 record. Brandon Webb provided a lift with seven scoreless innings in his first major league start and Craig Counsell drove in four runs in the opener, a 6-1 victory.

Johnson (1-2), who last pitched April 12, was not in top form, yielding nine hits and escaping two jams. But he allowed just two runs and struck out each hitter in the lineup at least once.
