Tampa Bay 2, NY Yankees 1

NEW YORK, April 13 (UPI) -- An error by catcher Jorge Posada on a bunt and a wild pitch by closer Juan Acevedo set up a go-ahead sacrifice fly by Toby Hall in the ninth inning Sunday as the Tampa Bay Devil Rays posted a 2-1 victory over the New York Yankees.

The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Yankees (9-2), who matched the best start in franchise history with a 5-4 win over the Devil Rays on Saturday.

But the Yanks squandered opportunities, going one-for-11 with runners in scoring position, leaving nine on base and playing shoddy defense.

After tying the game, 1-1, on an RBI single by Bernie Williams in the eighth inning, the Yanks failed to score more despite having runners on first and second and none out. Hideki Matsui, who had the game-winning single in the ninth inning of Saturday's win, popped out, Posada fouled out to the catcher and Robin Ventura grounded out to second.

Reliever Lance Carter (3-0) retired both Posada and Ventura and struck out two of the three batters he faced in the ninth for the win.

The Devil Rays snapped the tie in the top of the ninth against Acevedo (0-1). Marlon Anderson led off with a single, moved to second on a sacrifice by Damion Easley and Easley reached when Posada booted the bunt. On the next pitch, Posada reacted slowly to a pitch low and outside from Acevedo. The play was scored a wild pitch as the runners advanced to second and third.

Hall then lifted a fly ball to left and Anderson scored easily.
