Edmonton 5, Nashville 3

NASHVILLE, March 17 (UPI) -- Jason Chimera broke a tie with 4:53 remaining and Ryan Smyth collected three assists as the Edmonton Oilers edged closer to wrapping up a postseason berth Monday night with a 5-3 triumph over the Nashville Predators.

With the 900th win in franchise history, Edmonton moved 10 points ahead of Nashville in the battle for the final NHL Western Conference playoff spot with 10 games to play.

The contest was knotted, 3-3, Chimera redirected Shawn Horcoff's centering feed past goaltender Tomas Vokoun as Edmonton extended its road winning streak to four games.

Mike Comrie and rookie Ales Hemsky each added a goal and an assist as the Oilers improved to 5

1 in their last six trips to Nashville.

Denis Arkhipov scored twice for the Predators, whose ill-timed winless streak reached five games (0-4-1).
