Anaheim 4, Detroit 1

ANAHEIM, Calif., March 9 (UPI) -- Jean-Sebastien Giguere recorded 39 saves and Samuel Pahlsson had a goal and two assists Sunday night as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim cooled off the Detroit Red Wings, 4-1.

With a chance to match a team-record nine-game winning streak, the Red Wings were shut down by Giguere, who stopped 10 shots in the first period, 14 in the second and 15 in the third.

Detroit failed to get a point for the first time in 13 games and remained four ahead of second-place St. Louis in the Central Division. The Red Wings were 11


0-1 in their previous 12 contests.

After Steve Rucchin and Stanislav Chistov scored in the first period, rookie Kurt Sauer registered his first NHL goal on the power play seven minutes in the second period.

Things continued to unravel for the Red Wings as Pahlsson scored on a breakaway with 1:50 left in the second, just the third shorthanded goal allowed by Detroit this season. It also marked only the second time the Red Wings faced a four-goal deficit.

During a stretch in the first and second periods, Anaheim had six straight power plays.

Detroit dominated territorially in the the second, but Curtis Joseph surrendered two goals, despite facing only five shots in the period.

Brett Hull spoiled Giguere's shutout bid with his 29th goal with 8:28 left.
