NY Yankees 7, Boston 4

FT. MYERS, Fla., March 4 (UPI) -- Derek Jeter and Jason Giambi hit back-to-back home runs Tuesday to spark a four-run fifth inning and lead the New York Yankees to a 7-4 Grapefruit League victory over the Boston Red Sox.

Cuban Jose Contreras gave up three runs and four hits in three innings, putting the Yankees in a 3-0 hole. But New York chipped away in the fourth as Giambi acored Chris Latham with a sacrifice fly and Jeter scored on a throwing error by Shea Hillenbrand, cutting the deficit to one.

With two outs and one on in the fifth, Latham ripped a double down the left-field line before Jeter swatted his first homer of the spring off Juan Pena, who surrendered four runs and three hits in one inning. Giambi followed with a solo shot, giving the Yankees a 6-3 lead.

Former Michigan quarterback Drew Henson, who is expected to be the third baseman of the future for New York, added an RBI single in the sixth.

Jeff Weaver tossed three scoreless innings with four strikeouts to earn the victory, while Sterling Hitchcock yielded one run in three frames for the save.

Manny Ramirez and Damian Jackson hit solo homers and Nomar Garciaparra added an RBI double for the Red Sox.
