ST. LOUIS, March 1 (UPI) -- Rookie goaltender Curtis Sanford made 27 saves for his first career shutout and Pavol Demitra scored twice Saturday night, leading the St. Louis Blues to a 2-0 victory over the Minnesota Wild.
With Brent Johnson and Fred Brathwaite struggling, St. Louis coach Joel Quenneville turned to Sanford and the 23-year-old has responded. He stopped 21 shots in Thursday's 4-1 victory over Edmonton.
Sanford, who has won all three of his starts this season, had to be sharp again as the teams played a tight-checking, defensive-minded contest.
Demitra snapped a scoreless tie 5:47 into the second, jamming Scott Mellanby's rebound past Dwayne Roloson. He provided insurance for Sanford, taking a centering pass from Cory Stillman and beating Roloson with a one-timer with 6:55 left in the third.
Stillman also assisted on Demitra's first goal.
The Blues managed just 15 shots - four in the first period, seven in the second and four in the third.
