Allan Houston missed a layup, and New York committed a foul that allowed Miami to inbound the ball in the frontcourt. Best split the defense for the game-winner.

After their collapse, the Knicks had a chance to tie, but Kurt Thomas missed an 18-footer and time expired.

Eddie Jones scored 22 points and rookie Caron Butler finished with 10 for the Heat, who won for just the fourth time in 14 games.

Latrell Sprewell and Houston scored 18 of New York's 20 points in the fourth quarter, finishing with 28 and 20 points, respectively.
