NY Islanders 5, Pittsburgh 2

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Rookie Rick DiPietro made an impressive return from the minor leagues Tuesday night and Jason Blake scored twice to lead the New York Islanders to a 5-2 triumph over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Recalled from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League after Chris Osgood was injured a week ago, DiPietro made 24 saves in his first NHL start since Dec. 21.

The top overall pick in the 2000 draft allowed a goal to Steve McKenna during a two-man power play in the second period and another to Randy Robitaille off a rebound in the third but nothing else for his second win of the season.

Blake opened the scoring just over three minutes into the second period and capped his fourth multi-goal game of the season with 7:06 to go in the third, restoring a two-goal lead.

Linemates Alexei Yashin and Oleg Kvasha each chipped in a goal and an assist for the Islanders, who were playing at home for the first time since an embarrassing 5-0 loss to the New York Rangers on Jan. 21.
