Portland 98, Minnesota 92 (OT)

MINNEAPOLIS, Dec. 14 (UPI) -- Derek Anderson scored six of his 24 points in overtime Saturday night as the Portland Trail Blazers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves, 98-92.

The Trail Blazers completed a 3-2 road trip and prevented the Timberwolves from recording a season-high third straight triumph.

Portland led the entire extra session after Dale Davis hit a jump shot 28 seconds in that made it 87-85.

After Kevin Garnett sank a baseline jumper to get Minnesota within 89-88 with 3:45 to play, Bonzi Wells made one of two free throws and a layup and Anderson sank a three-pointer from the right corner to give the Blazers a 95-88 advantage with 1:48 remaining.

The Timberwovles got no closer than five points thereafter.

Rasheed Wallace contributed 18 points and 11 rebounds and Davis 15 and 14 for Portland, which outrebounded Minnesota, 59-47.

Garnett scored 21 points but connected on just nine of 27 shots. Minnesota limited Portland to 41 percent from the floor, but made only 39 percent.

With the game tied at 85-85 and 10 seconds remaining in regulation, Wallace missed a jumper, but Davis controlled the offensive rebound.

Davis was tied up by Joe Smith, but won the jump ball, and the Blazers called timeout with 7.1 seconds left to set up a final play. Wallace then front-rimmed a three-pointer from the top of the arc, sending the game into overtime.
