Edmonton 1, Colorado 0

EDMONTON, Alberta, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Tommy Salo continued his best stretch of the season with another shutout and Dan Cleary scored the game's only goal as the Edmonton Oilers extended their unbeaten streak to six games Saturday night with a 1-0 blanking of the Colorado Avalanche.

Salo stopped 22 shots for his second shutout of the season, both of which have come during an eight-game stretch in which he has allowed just 10 goals while going 6-1-1.

His best saves in this one came in the third period, when Edmonton was outshot, 12-2. Salo took a slap shot from defenseman Adam Foote off his mask with 12 1/2 minutes remaining, got his right pad on Joe Sakic's backhander with 11 minutes left and denied Vaclav Nedorost with a glove save at the right goalpost with 2:55 remaining.

Cleary ended a 22-game scoring drought just 21 seconds into the second period. Todd Marchant stole the puck from former Oiler defenseman Greg de Vries and carried down the left boards before sliding a pass to Cleary. Positioned at the edge of the left faceoff circle, Cleary ripped a one-timer over the left shoulder of goaltender David Aebischer for his first goal since April 10.

That turned out to be enough to move the Oilers into a tie with the Avalanche for third place in the Northwest Division.

Aebischer turned away 17 shots for Colorado, which had a six-game unbeaten streak snapped.
