N.Y. Rangers 5; San Jose 4

SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Rem Murray had two goals and an assist Monday night, and Dan Blackburn stopped 33 shots as the New York Rangers built a three-goal lead and held on for a 5-4 victory over the San Jose Sharks.

In a contest that featured nearly six consecutive minutes of power-play time for the Rangers, a penalty shot, and a disallowed goal, Murray posted his first multi-goal game since March 28, 2001, when he was with the Edmonton Oilers.

After giving New York a 2-0 lead midway through the first period, the Michigan native netted a power-play tally with 3:11 remaining in the second to put the Rangers ahead by three.

San Jose fought back with two third-period goals, including one by Patrick Marleau on a penalty shot, but Blackburn held off numerous chances by the Sharks for his second straight win.

Defenseman Brian Leetch, Ronald Petrovicky and Ted Donato also scored for the Rangers, who had lost four of the previous five meetings with San Jose.
