Arizona 11, Colorado 8

PHOENIX, Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Chad Moeller doubled, homered twice and drove in six runs Sunday as the Arizona Diamondbacks completed a four-game sweep with an 11-8 victory over the Colorado Rockies.

In the midst of a six-game losing streak, Arizona lost All-Star left fielder Luis Gonzalez for the season with a separated left shoulder and was in danger of giving up its lead in the NL West.

But the Diamondbacks quickly turned around their fortunes, closing out the regular season with four straight victories and maintaining their hold on home-field advantage in their NL Division Series showdown with the Cardinals, which begins at Bank One Ballpark on Tuesday.

Moeller began his most productive day in the major leagues with an RBI single in the first inning, giving Arizona a 3-0 lead. After a leadoff single by former Rockie Mark Little in the fourth, Moeller belted a 1-1 offering from Denny Stark over the left field wall for his first homer of the season.

With the Diamondbacks ahead, 7-2, Moeller led off the sixth with a solo blast for his first career multi-homer game. He added a two-run double in the seventh. The six RBI is a career high for the backup catcher, whose previous high of three came on July 29, 2000 against the New York Mets.

Arizona recorded its major league-best 55th home win and raised its record at home since July 22 to 27-7.

Felix Jose belted his second homer in as many days for the Diamondbacks while Juan Pierre homered for Colorado, his first since last season's final game against San Diego.

Rookie John Patterson (2-0) gained the win, allowing two runs and six hits in five innings with eight strikeouts. NL Cy Young Award candidate Curt Schilling made his first relief appearance since May 13, 1992 -- a span of 308 consecutive starts -- but was touched for three runs and three hits in one inning.

After Armando Reynoso surrendered two runs in the ninth, Byung-Hyun Kim recorded the final two outs for his 36th save.

Stark (11-4) had his four-game winning streak snapped, yielding six runs and seven hits in four innings with two walks and a strikeout.
