Seattle 2, Minnesota 0

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Jamie Moyer and two relievers combined on a five-hitter Thursday as the Seattle Mariners blanked the Minnesota Twins, 2-0, to avoid a three-game sweep.

Moyer (13-6) earned his first win since Aug. 8, scattering five hits over seven-plus innings with a walk and seven strikeouts. He had been 0-2 with a 7.32 ERA in his previous three starts.

Rick Reed (12-7) matched zeros with Moyer until Desi Relaford homered on the first pitch in the top of the eighth. Relaford collected three of the Mariners' nine hits.

After Arthur Rhodes got the final three outs in the bottom of the eighth, Ben Davis provided insurance with a sacrifice fly off Mike Jackson in the top of the ninth.

Kazuhuro Sasaki recorded the final three outs for his 33rd save.

The Mariners, who scored just five runs in the series, completed a 4-6 road trip and tied the Anaheim Angels in the American League wild card race.
