KUTZTOWN, Pa., Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Danielle Ammaccapane, making a late bid to grab a spot on the United States Solheim Cup team, shared the lead with Wendy Doolan Friday at the halfway point of the Betsy King Classic.
Doolan was one of a host of Australians who were in the running for the title while Ammaccapane has hopes of a high finish that would give her a chance to compete next month in the most significant team event in women's golf.
Ammaccapane shot a 3-under 69 Friday to get to 9-under 135. Doolan reached the same number with a 68.
Australians Karrie Webb, Rachel Teske and Michelle Ellis shared third place at 136 with Stefania Croce. Joanne Morley and Val Skinner were tied at 137.
This is the next-to-last tournament in which players can earn Solheim Cup points and Ammaccapane needs 26 points to grab one of the 10 automatic qualifying spots. To win that many points, she must win the tournament.
A first-place finish will give her 30 points and a second-place finish will give her 15.
The last qualifying spot is currently being held by Kelly Robbins, who was tied for 14th at 139 after Friday's second round. Kelli Kuehne, who is one position ahead of Robbins in the point standings, finished 36 holes at 140.
Betsy King, the Hall of Famer for whom the tournament is named, made the 36-hole cut at 141.
