Philadelphia 6, Chi. Cubs 2

CHICAGO, July 25 (UPI) -- Tony Perez put his team ahead with a bases-loaded triple in the eighth inning Thursday, then raced home on a missed third strike as the Philadelphia Phillies rallied for five runs in the final two innings to down the Chicago Cubs, 6-2.

Philadelphia erupted for four runs in the eighth to erase a 2-1 deficit and take three of four at Wrigley Field. It marked the first time the Phillies had won a series against the Cubs since Sept. 28-30, 1999 in Philadelphia.

Carlos Silva (2-0) tossed two scoreless innings in relief of Brandon Duckworth to record the victory.

After Pat Burrell walked with one out in the eighth, left fielder Moises Alou was charged with a two-base error when Scott Rolen's flyball caromed off his glove.

The Cubs intentionally walked Travis Lee, who had an RBI single in the sixth inning, to load the bases. But Perez lined a 1-0 offering from Kyle Farnsworth (3-2) just inside the right field line, giving the Phillies a 4-2 lead.

Farnsworth came back to strike out Jimmy Rollins, but catcher Todd Hundley dropped the third strike. When Hundley threw to first, Perez charged home from third. He originally was credited with a stolen base, but after the game the play was changed to a fielder's choice.

The Phillies, who won four of six against the Cubs this year, got their final run on Burrell's RBI single.

The Cubs grabbed a 2-0 lead on Fred McGriff's two-run homer in the first, but Duckworth blanked the Cubs thereafter, yielding three hits over six innings.
