Los Angeles 4; Arizona 0

PHOENIX, July 2 (UPI) -- Hideo Nomo won his seventh straight game with eight scoreless innings Monday night and added an RBI double off Randy Johnson as the Los Angeles Dodgers posted a key 4-0 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Los Angeles extended its lead over Arizona in the National League West Division to 2 1/2 games. The Dodgers ended a five-game losing streak against Johnson, and improved to 17-5 against lefthanded starters.

Nomo (9-5) is unbeaten in his last nine starts with a 2.76 ERA in that span. He allowed just five hits with no walks and seven strikeouts.

Johnson (12-3) allowed just two hits through four innings, but Adrian Beltre singled with one out in the fifth. It appeared the Dodgers would not score when Johnson got Jeff Reboulet to pop out with Nomo up next.

But Johnson fell behind before Nomo fouled off a 3-1 delivery rather than try and draw a walk. Nomo had an even more aggressive swing on the next offering and lined it to the left field fence to give Los Angeles the lead.

Cesar Izturis followed with another hard-hit double to score Nomo for a 2-0 lead.

Dodgers closer Eric Gagne entered with a pair of runners on and nobody out in the ninth and retired all three hitters he faced for his major league-leading 30th save in 31 chances.

Johnson allowed all four runs, three earned, and a season-high nine hits in seven innings. He struck out six and saw his three-game winning streak end.
