Atlanta 9, Chi. White Sox 1

ATLANTA, June 23 (UPI) -- Jason Marquis tossed six innings and four teammates homered Sunday as the Atlanta Braves rolled past the Chicago White Sox, 9-1.

Marquis (6-4) has been plagued by a lack of run support over the last two seasons but was staked to an early lead Sunday and cruised.

The talented righthander allowed just three hits and three walks. He struck out six and won for the third time in four starts.

Kevin Gryboski tossed a hitless seventh and Chris Hammond worked a scoreless eighth. Mike Remlinger pitched in and out of trouble in the ninth.

Chipper Jones, Andruw Jones, Rafael Furcal and Matt Franco homered for the Braves, who have won 12 of 15 interleague games. Franco recorded his first career four-hit game as Atlanta outscored Chicago, 27-5, in the series.

Chicago starter Danny Wright (5-8) was tagged for six runs -- four earned -- and 10 hits in six innings. He walked two and struck out six.

The Braves jumped on Wright in the opening inning. Furcal led off the bottom of the first with his fourth home run, a shot over the right field wall. It was his third career leadoff homer and second this season.

Matt Franco followed Furcal's blast with a single to right and stole second as Gary Sheffield struck out. Chipper Jones singled to right for a 2-0 lead and Andruw Jones crushed a 1-0 pitch over the center field wall for a four-run cushion.

The White Sox had two runners on in the second, but Marquis struck out Royce Clayton and retired Mark Johnson on a flyout.

With the Braves ahead, 4-0, Chipper Jones reached on an error by third baseman Jose Valentin to open the third. Wright got the next two batters, but Javy Lopez came through with an RBI double and Jesse Garcia followed with a single for a 6-1 lead.

Chicago threatened again in the fourth, putting runners on second and third with one out. But Marquis got Carlos Lee on a flyout and Clayton on a groundout.

Lee led off the seventh with his ninth homer and Braves manager Bobby Cox quickly went to his bullpen.

Atlanta tacked on three runs in the eighth as Franco had a two-run homer, his third of the season, and Chipper Jones added a solo shot, his ninth.
