Colorado 4, San Diego 2

SAN DIEGO, May 30 (UPI) -- Denny Neagle pitched five scoreless innings for his first win in nearly a month Thursday and Greg Norton hit his second grand slam of the season as the Colorado Rockies held on for a 4-2 victory over the San Diego Padres.

Staked to a quick 4-0 lead, Neagle (4-2) allowed just two singles but walked five while striking out six. He improved to 7-3 lifetime against San Diego while lowering his ERA at Qualcomm Stadium to 0.75.

The veteran lefthander pitched well in his previous two starts but had not won since tossing eight scoreless innings against Pittsburgh on May 1.

Justin Speier worked two hitless innings before Kent Mercker loaded the bases with none out in the eighth. But San Diego was able to get just one run on a sacrifice fly by Ron Gant as red-hot Todd Jones also retired Bubba Trammell and Wiki Gonzalez.

Jones extended his scoreless streak to 15 innings.

Closer Jose Jimenez struggled in the ninth, allowing a leadoff double to D'Angelo Jimenez, who scored on shortstop Juan Uribe's second error of the game. But Ryan Klesko was retired on a groundout to end the game as Jose Jimenez recorded his 14th save in as many chances.
