Rangers overhaul pitching staff

ARLINGTON, Texas, May 27 (UPI) -- The Texas Rangers, mired in last place in the American League West, overhauled their pitching staff Monday with a series of roster moves.

Gone are lefthanders Doug Davis and Chris Michalak and righthander Steve Woodard. In their place are righthanders Rob Bell and Anthony Telford and lefthander Juan Alvarez.

Davis was optioned to Class AAA Oklahoma of the Pacific Coast League while Michalak and Woodard were designated for assignment, giving the Rangers 10 days to trade, release or send them outright to the minors.

Bell was recalled from Oklahoma and Telford and Alvarez had their contracts purchased from Texas' top minor league affiliate.
