VIRGINIA WATER, England, May 24 (UPI) -- Anders Hansen of Denmark had a 7-under-par 65 Friday to grab a two-stroke lead midway through the European Tour Volvo PGA Championship.
Hansen, who has had a pair of top-10 finishes the past three weeks, is at 11-under 133, two shots better than first-round leader Colin Montgomerie of Scotland and Eduardo Romero of Argentina.
The 31-year-old Hansen made bogey at the first hole but added eight birdies at the Wentworth Club.
Playing with an ailing back, Montgomerie moved to 12-under at one point, but he struck a spectator in the head with his drive at the par-4 16th and ended up with a bogey. He also bogeyed the 18th.
Romero shot a 68 to guarantee himself a spot in the final group Saturday. The highlight of Romero's second round was an eagle from the fairway at the 403-yard 11th.
Mark McNulty of Zimbabwe and Carlos Rodiles of Spain are tied for fourth at 136.
World No. 4 Retief Goosen of South Africa, who will defend his U.S. Open title next month, missed the cut after a second-round 74.
