Texas 2, Detroit 0

ARLINGTON, Texas, May 10 (UPI) -- Kenny Rogers and Hideki Irabu combined on an eight-hitter and Michael Young and Alex Rodriguez had run-scoring doubles in the eighth inning as the Texas Rangers edged the Detroit Tigers Friday night, 2-0.

Rogers (4-1) allowed seven hits over eight innings with a walk and five strikeouts. He left the bases loaded in the fourth inning when he struck out Brandon Inge and got Jose Macias on a comebacker.

Irabu struck out two batters in the ninth to pick up his ninth save in 10 chances.

Detroit starter Jeff Weaver matched Rogers' string of zeros until the eighth inning, when he walked Calvin Murray and surrendered the back-to-back doubles with one out.

Weaver fell to 0-4 lifetime against Texas and the Tigers dropped their third straight game.
