Baltimore 6, Tampa Bay 3

TAMPA, Fla., April 20 (UPI) -- Jay Gibbons homered to tie it and Jerry Hairston Jr. doubled in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning Saturday night as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, 6-3, for their second straight win.

Baltimore needed 14 innings Friday to record a victory over Tampa Bay in the series opener, the second-longest game in Devil Rays' history. The longest was a 15-inning loss to the Orioles on Aug. 4, 2000.

Gibbons and Hairston had two hits apiece as Baltimore won for just the sixth time in its first 17 games. The Orioles are off to their worst start since going 4-12 in 1999.

After giving up three runs in the opening three innings, Baltimore starter Jason Johnson (1-3) settled down, giving up no more runs and a total of hits in seven innings. The righthander struck out five and walked one.
