Poutchek wins, Mandula loses at Budapest

BUDAPEST, Hungary, April 17 (UPI) -- Sixth seed Tatiana Poutchek of Belarus moved into the quarterfinals, but second-seeded Hungarian Petra Mandula lost her first-round match in the $110,000 Budapest Open Wednesday.

Poutchek overcame Frenchwoman Emilie Loit, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3 and will meet either third seed Cara Black of Zimbabwe or Hungarian wild card Katalin Marosi-Aracama in the quarterfinals.

Lubomira Kurhajcova of Slovakia cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Mandula in the final first-round match

Wednesday.

Germany's Martina Muller also moved into the quarterfinals with a 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 triumph over Frenchwoman Celine Beigbeder and Hungarian Rita Kuti Kis defeated Germany's Jana Kandarr, 6-0, 7-5.

On Thursday, top seed Martina Sucha of Slovakia akes on Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova, Hungary's Zsofia Gubacsi meets fourth seed Eleni Daniildou of Greece, Bulgaria's Lubomira Bacheva faces Israeli qualifier Tzipora Obziler and Kurhajcova encounters qualifier Myriam Casanova of Switzerland.
