JUPITER, Fla., March 30 (UPI) -- Julian Tavarez pitched five strong innings and the Florida Marlins did all their scoring in the final two innings Saturday to defeat the Montreal Expos, 5-1.

Tavarez, acquired from the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday in the six-player deal that sent closer Antonio Alfonseca to the Cubs, allowed one run and four hits with two walks and six strikeouts.

Vladimir Nunez pitched two scoreless innings for the win as the Marlins scored twice in the eighth and three times in the ninth.

Montreal starter Zach Day allowed two hits over five scoreless innings.

Eric Owens of the Marlins and Michael Barrett of the Expos each had two hits.
