Angeles put reliever on disabled list

TEMPE, Ariz., March 26 (UPI) -- The Anaheim Angels placed lefthander Dennis Cook on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a contusion of the left rib cage.

The move is retroactive to March 22, allowing Cook to be eligible to be activated for Anaheim's sixth game of the season. against the Texas Rangers.

Cook suffered the injury in a benches-clearing brawl during a March 9 Cactus League game against the San Diego Padres.

Angels first baseman Scott Spiezio was suspended six games and third baseman Troy Glaus two games while righthander Aaron Sele and outfielder Ron Gant were fined for their parts in the incident.

Cook signed with Anaheim on December 19, 2001 and allowed two earned runs in two innings in two appearances this spring.

The 39-year-old went 1-1 with a 4.25 ERA in 43 games with the New York Mets last season before being traded to Philadelphia.

He registered a 5.59 ERA and did not receive a decision in 19 outings with the Phillies.
