San Diego 7, Milwaukee 6

PEORIA, Ariz., March 21 (UPI) -- Adam Amezcua tied the game with a homer in the bottom of the eighth inning and won it with an RBI infield hit as the San Diego Padres rallied for a 7-6 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

A catcher who turned 28 on March 9, Amezcua connected off Jesus Pena for his first spring homer. His single off Ray King with two out in the ninth scored Mark Sweeney with the winning run.

Ron Gant homered and drove in three runs for the Padres while Trenidad Hubbard was three for three and Ramon Vazquez collected two hits and scored twice.

San Diego starter Brett Tomko was pounded for five runs and nine hits in five innings.

Richie Sexson was three for four with a homer and two RBI as Milwaukee collected 14 hits off five pitchers. Starter Glendon Rusch allowed three runs and six hits in five innings, but all three Milwaukee relievers were ineffective.
