Seattle pitching prospect injured

PEORIA, Ariz., March 13 (UPI) -- Ryan Anderson, a pitcher in the Seattle farm system and one of the most promising prospects in the game, could miss the entire 2002 season after an MRI exam revealed a possible tear in the labrum of his left shoulder.

Anderson, 22, underwent an MRI Wednesday and the preliminary diagnosis by the radiologist was a torn labrun. The results have been sent to Mariners' medical director Dr. Larry Pedegana in Seattle to examine.

The 6-10 Anderson missed the entire 2001 season with the same injury. But when he has been healthy, Anderson has been one of the most dominant pitchers in the minor leagues.

In three seasons, Anderson has allowed 300 hits and struck out 460 in 349 1/3 innings. The 19th overall selection in the 1997 draft, Anderson likely would have started the season at Class AAA Tacoma.
