Nashville 2, Dallas 1

NASHVILLE, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Mike Dunham finished with 33 saves, including 12 in the final period, to lead the Nashville Predators to their second straight win Wednesday night with a 2-1 victory over the Dallas Stars.

Dunham carried a shutout for just over 47 minutes, but the Stars halved the deficit during a goalmouth scramble. After Dunham make a save on Pat Verbeek, the rebound trickled wide of the net. Verbeek regained posession and had a second shot blocked by Cliff Ronning.

With the U.S. Olympian caught at the top crease, defensemen Mark Eaton and Karlis Skrastins, Scott Hartnell and Greg Classen all piled on top of Ronning in an attempt to get the play whistled down. But referee Mark Faucette maintanined his view of the play and signaled the puck had crossed the goal line during the melee.

The Stars failed to generate any offense for the remainder of the game and were unable to pull goalie Ed Belfour for an extra attacker until the final 30 seconds.

Denis Arkhipov scored a 1:46 into the game and set up Vladimir Orszagh's eventual game-winner with just under three minutes left in the second period.
