Miami 94, New York 83

NEW YORK, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- Alonzo Mourning scored 21 points and grabbed 12 rebounds Sunday as the Miami Heat pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 94-83 victory over the New York Knicks.

The Heat have won 10 of their last 12 games and are close to moving out of the Atlantic Division basement. Miami (18-28) is within one-half game of the sixth-place Knicks, who have lost back-to-back games after a season-high four-game winning streak.

The Knicks played without center Marcus Camby, who was placed on the injured list Sunday with a torn muscle and bone contusion of the right hip suffered in Friday's loss to the Indiana Pacers.

Mourning, who was playing his second game since missing a pair of contests with the flu, took advantage of the gaping hole in the middle, as did several of his teammates.

Eddie Jones scored 18 points, Jimmy Jackson 15, and Rod Strickland 14 for the Heat. Jackson and Brian Grant each grabbed 10 reboubnds.

Allan Houston scored 28 points for the Knicks, including 10 straight points in the fourth quarter that cut the lead to 82-78.

But Mourning hit a free throw and Jones sank a pair of free throws to make it a seven-point game and end the New York threat.
