Toronto 3, Ottawa 1

TORONTO, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Darcy Tucker's power-play goal snapped a second-period tie Saturday and the Toronto Maple Leafs snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Ottawa Senators with a 3-1 victory.

Alexander Mogilny added a power-play goal for Toronto, which had not defeated Ottawa since March 11, 2000, when defenseman Bryan Berard nearly lost an eye.

The Maple Leafs also remained atop the Eastern Conference by a point over Boston, which won earlier Saturday.

Ottawa posted a season-low 10 shots and fell seven points behind Toronto in the Northeast Division.

Tucker redirected the go-ahead goal past Patrick Lalime for his 13th of the season after Tie Domi sent the puck toward the net following a pass from Robert Reichel near the right boards.

Mogilny added an insurance goal with 3:15 left in the second to cap the scoring. The puck bounced of the back boards on a shot by Bryan McCabe and Mogilny tapped it in on a hop.

Toronto conceded its first shorthanded goal of the season as Mike Fisher faked defenseman Jyrki Lumme and put the puck low past Curtis Joseph's glove side to tie it at 1-1 less than five minutes into the third period.

Reichel had scored unassisted at 2:36 of the first, taking advantage of a mistake by Lalime, who backhanded the puck behind the net straight to Reichel.
