St. Louis 7, Nashville 2

ST. LOUIS, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Pavol Demitra and Scott Young each scored twice Sunday night as the St. Louis Blues enjoyed their most productive game of the season with a 7-2 triumph over the Nashville Predators.

Over the previous nine games, Nashville held opponents to two goals or less. It yielded more than five goals just twice in its first 36 games.

Demitra opened the scoring on the power play midway through the first period and got the eventual game-winner 9:32 in the second, giving St. Louis a 3-1 lead. Dallas Drake pulled goaltender Tomas Vokoun out of position, then centered to Demitra for the easy tap-in and his 20th goal.

Young beat Vokoun with a wrist shot early in the second period and struck again 8 1/2 minutes into the third to extend the Blues' advantage to 6-2.

Fred Brathwaite made 17 saves while Mike Eastwood, Sergei Varlamov and Daniel Corso also scored for the Blues, who got points from 14 different players and improved to 9-1


1 in their last 11 home games.

Making his first start in 10 games, Vokoun stopped 28 shots for the Predators, who fell to 1-9-1 in their last 11 on the road.
