Anaheim 2, San Jose 1

SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 27 (UPI) -- The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim continued their resurgence Wednesday night against an unlikely opponent.

Steve Shields stopped 27 shots and Matt Cullen scored the go-ahead goal 68 seconds into the third period as the Ducks ended a six-game losing streak against the San Jose Sharks with a 2-1 victory.

Anaheim has given up just five goals in its last five games, winning four, including a season-high three straight. The Ducks also have recorded consecutive road wins for the first time since Oct.16-17, 2000.

Cullen broke a 1-1 tie with his third goal in the last four games, stuffing the puck past goaltender Evgeni Nabokov on a wraparound at the right goalpost.

Mike Leclerc scored the other goal and Jeff Friesen collected two assists for Anaheim, which lost the first three meetings this season and had not beaten San Jose since Feb.21.

Scott Thornton tallied for the Sharks, who fell to 0-2-1 on the heels of a team-record 10-game unbeaten streak.
