Miami 98, Seattle 94 (OT)

SEATTLE, Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Brian Grant scored four points in an overtime session and helped hold Seattle scoreless for nearly four minutes Friday night as the Miami Heat edged the SuperSonics, 98-94, to snap a 12-game losing streak.

The win was Miami's first since an 87-85 overtime victory over Seattle on November 6. It also was the Heat's first win ever after 13 straight losses in the Emerald City.

Miami's losing streak was its longest since a 13-game skid from Dec. 19, 1989-Jan. 13, 1990 and the longest in coach Pat Riley's illustrious career.

The Heat scored the first six points of overtime on baskets by Eddie Jones, Grant and Alonzo Mourning. Seattle finally got on the board with 1:23 left on Brent Barry's free throws, but Grant hit two from the line with 25 seconds left and the Sonics got no closer than three thereafter.

Jimmy Jackson sent the game to overtime with a jumper from the left elbow just before the buzzer.

LaPhonso Ellis had a layup to give Miami an 86-83 lead with 1:23 left in the fourth quarter.

Seattle scored the next five points on two free throws by rookie Vladimir Radmanovic, a jump shot by Gary Payton and 1-of-2 free throws by Rashard Lewis with nine seconds left.

Mourning, who did not play in the Heat's previous game against Seattle, finished with 21 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks. Jones, who sat out Tuesday's loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, added 17 and nine.

Grant collected 15 points and 10 rebounds and Rod Strickland tallied a season-high 15 points for Miami (3-14).

Payton finished with 25 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds. Lewis added 22 points and 11 rebounds for Seattle (9-13), which lost its third in a row.

Barry hit a 3-pointer just before the third-quarter buzzer to give Seattle its first lead, 69-68. Mourning and Jones, who combined for 29 first-half points, scored only two in the third.

Mourning had 15 points, six rebounds and three blocks in the first half to stake Miami to a 49-42 edge. The Heat led by as much as 44-31 with 4:57 to go, but Payton and Shammond Williams each hit 3-pointers to close the gap to seven by halftime.
