BOSTON, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- Ray Whitney and Mike Sillinger each had a goal and an assist and Marc Denis stopped 36 shots Saturday night as the Blue Jackets blitzed the Boston Bruins, 5-1, for just their second win in 10 games.

The Blue Jackets had a 1-0 lead when rookie defenseman Rostislav Klesla passed from the blue line to Whitney, who was standing behind the goal line to the right of goaltender Byron Dafoe. Whitney found Sillinger in the slot and he put the puck past Dafoe for his second goal of the season 13:03 into the first period.

Activated from injured reserve Friday, Whitney scored his first goal of the season with just over 15 seconds left in the second period as he took a pass from Sillinger and skated up the right side with Bruins center Joe Thornton on his back. After his initial shot was stopped by Dafoe, Whitney picked up the loose puck in the crease and wristed it past the goalie's glove side to make it 4-1.

It was the second game of the season for Whitney, who missed 11 with a strained chest muscle.

Denis allowed a power-play goal with 2:58 left in the opening period when Sergei Samsonov poked in a loose puck in the crease for his sixth goal of the season. But he was perfect thereafter as the Blue Jackets improved to 3-4-2 on the road. They are 0-6-2 at home.

Coming off Thursday's 5-3 loss to Minnesota, the Bruins have dropped three of four at the FleetCenter after winning their first four home games.
