Phoenix 69, Seattle 62

PHOENIX, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Seconds after watching the Phoenix Suns win a meaningless exhibition game, the fans at America West Arena saw the end of a much bigger victory Sunday night.

Phoenix's 69-62 victory over the Seattle SuperSonics had barely ended when Game 5 of the National League Championship Series was shown on the video scoreboard.

The fans saw Tony Womack's series-winning single in the bottom of the ninth inning and began cheering wildly for their baseball team.

The Diamondbacks gave the fans much more to cheer about than the Suns or SuperSonics, who played the lowest-scoring game of the preseason. The only two players in double figures were Seattle's Gary Payton with 16 points and Phoenix's Tony Delk with 11.

Shawn Marion scored nine points and Stephon Marbury added seven and five assists for the Suns (2-0), who shot under 36 percent from the field.

Phoenix guard Penny Hardaway, who played just four games due to knee problems last season, sat out due to personal reasons. He had tendinitis in his knee during training camp.

Brent Barry scored nine points for the Sonics (1-2), who shot under 30 percent. Rookie forward Vladimir Radmanovic scored five points in 14 minutes.
