Davenport defeats Henin in Germany

FILDERSTADT, Germany, Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Lindsay Davenport captured her fifth WTA title of the year Sunday, getting past Justine Henin, 7-5, 6-4, to win the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix.

Davenport, the third seed, lost just 22 games in four matches on the way to the $90,000 top prize at the hardcourt event. The American also won the Pan Pacific Open, State Farm Classic, Britannic Asset Management and estyle.com Classic tournaments this year.

The 25-year-old Californian claimed her 35th career title. She missed three months with a bruised right knee but returned to win tournaments in Eastbourne, England and Los Angeles.

Davenport, the runner-up here in 1998, has a 5-3 record in finals this year. She fell in the title match of hardcourt events in Sydney, Stanford, California and New Haven. She also advanced to the final four at the Australian Open and Wimbledon, losing to eventual champions Jennifer Capriati and Venus Williams.

Henin, the sixth-seeded Belgian, lost her third straight final after winning her first three championship matches of the season. After winning here in her WTA Tour debut in 1999, she captured the Australian Women's Hardcourt Championships, Canberra International and Heineken Trophy titles this year.

The Belgian teen reached her first career Grand Slam final at Wimbledon, falling to Williams.

Henin dropped to 0-4 lifetime against Davenport, also losing to the American in the fourth round of the 2000 U.S. Open.
