ATHENS, Greece, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Greek officials said more than 1,400 ancient graves have been uncovered by construction workers in Thessaloniki.

The graves, which were found along a new metro line being built in the northern port city, range from the Hellenistic period to the late Roman era, the Athens News Agency reported Friday.

Thessaloniki is the country's second largest city.
