Dec. 12 (UPI) -- A single mom from Dearborn Heights, Mich., was able to literally put the fear of God into an intruder who broke into her home at around 4:45 a.m. on Monday and assaulted her.

The 38-year-old got rid of her attacker by preaching the Bible and telling him “God loves you, you don’t want to do this.”

After her words hit home, the intruder got up and left the house through the basement window without seriously injuring the woman. The victim’s daughter was left completely unharmed.

"I told her God was watching out for her,” said neighbor Julie Wilding. “Someone was watching out for her. To be able to walk away from something like this... by witnessing to somebody and changing the course of what they planned on doing… to just walking away.” Wilding added:

"She's a very good mother. She spends all the time with her daughter… special needs daughter. She's a very religious person. She's very strong in her faith… a really good person."

Residents of the neighborhood are becoming alarmed because this isn’t the first time something like this has happened recently. "To have a violation like that in this neighborhood… as close as we are,” said neighbor Joe Kowalski. “There are people that I've known… their children have taken over the houses. If there is someone who needs anything they can go to a neighbor's house or the neighbor can find someone who does know."

Police are still looking for the suspect, but don’t have many clues other than footprints that were left outside the home.
